scriptures on sexuality

Below are over 100 scripture verses relating to sexuality. These are great to use in battle plans or to memorize when tempted or write on post-it notes and put around your house, computer, car etc. They are split into several categories.

Lust / Adultery and the Flesh

Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Attempting to dabble with temptation without acting out:

Proverbs 6:27“Can fire be carried in the bosom without burning one's clothes?”

Revelation 21:8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Exodus 20:17“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

1 Corinthians 6:13-15 “….The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!”

1 Corinthians 6:16 “Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.”

Hebrews 13:4“Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.”

Romans 8:13“for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

1 Peter 4:3“You have already spent enough time in doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry.”

Romans 7:5“While we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.”

Romans 13:14“Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”

Proverbs 6:32-33 “But he who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself. He will get wounds and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away.”

Proverbs 6:25-29 “Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; for a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread but the wife of another stalks a man's very life. Can fire be carried in the bosom without burning one's clothes? Or can one walk on hot coals without scorching the feet? So is he who sleeps with his neighbor's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.”

1 John 2:16“for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world.”

Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Mark 7:20-23“And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

2 Peter 2:14-18 “They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! They have left the straight road and have gone astray, following the road of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of doing wrong, but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet's madness. These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm; for them the deepest darkness has been reserved. For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error.

Romans 8:6“To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”

Galatians 5:16-21 “Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Ephesians 5:5-6 “Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure person, or one who is greedy (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes on those who are disobedient.”

Matthew 5:29-30 “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.”

Romans 1:21-27 “for though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools; and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason, God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.”

Empowerment and Action

Romans 12:2“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Romans 6:13-14 “No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

Romans 12:1-2“The New Life in Christ “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.”

Psalm 101:3“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.”

Psalm 51:10“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and steadfast spirit within me”

1 Timothy 5:2“…Treat older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity”

Job 31:1“I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I look upon a virgin?”

Proverbs 31:3“Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings”

Proverbs 5:8“Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house;”

Colossians 3:5 “Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).”

James 1:13-15“No one, when tempted, should say, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it; then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death.”

1 Corinthians 9:27 “but I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.”

Galatians 5:24 “And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

Ephesians 4:22 “You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts...”

1 Thessalonians 4:4-5 “that each one of you know how to control your own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;”

1 John 1:8-9“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

2 Timothy 2:22 “Shun youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”

Titus 2:11-12“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly”

1 peter 2:11“Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul.”

Ephesians 5:3“But fornication and impurity of any kind, or greed, must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints.”

James 5:16“Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective”

Galatians 2:20 “…and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Colossians 3:1-10 “So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.”

Job 31:1“I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?”

Proverbs 31:3“Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings.”

Sirach 21:2“Flee from sin as from a snake; for if you approach sin, it will bite you. Its teeth are lion's teeth, and can destroy the souls of men.”

1 Timothy 6:11-12 “But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

1 Corinthians 6:15-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.” But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.”

Ephesians 4:22-24 “You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Quote:When tempted, think” I will not give my power to that woman”

Matthew 16:24-25 “Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.”

Mark 8:35“For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel,] will save it.”

Luke 5:27-28“After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up, left everything, and followed him.”

Mark 9:43“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.”

Galatians 5:16 “Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Matthew 19:21“Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”

Matthew 19:29“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.”

1 Peter 4:2“so as to live for the rest of your earthly life no longer by human desires but by the will of God.”

He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” And although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not consent to lie beside her or to be with her.”

Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.”

Proverbs 5:20“Why should you be intoxicated, my son, by another woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress?”

Self-Awareness

James 1:14“But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it;”

John 10:10“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Mark 7:21-23“For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Ephesians 4:17-19 “Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.”

Encouragement and Strength

Romans 7:15-24 “I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.”

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 “Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body.”

Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Romans 8:13“for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

1 Peter 1:13-16 “Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed. Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”

Romans 6:14“For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

Proverbs 7:25-27 “Do not let your hearts turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths. For many are those she has laid low, and numerous are her victims. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.”

Romans 6:5-11“We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For whoever has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

The Whole Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-15 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace.”

The Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:18-23 “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

Freedom in Christ!

Romans 13:12-14 “the night is far gone; the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”

Romans 12:1-2“I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 “So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall. No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.”

Galatians 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.”

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God.”

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 “So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil.”

John 14:15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Matthew 26:41“Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Matthew 5:8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

1 Peter 5:8“Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour”

Quote “A man first collapses in the prayer closet”. To go days without prayer is spiritual suicide. The problem is that many of us have a weak and inconsistent prayer life. We allow busyness, friends and worldly entertainments to eat into our time. Never compromise on prayer life - Leonard Ravenhill

Quote“Sinful pleasure at its very best and in the most promising state is still an inferior pleasure.”

Quote“God asks us to rest in him, and him alone. And when we do not do that, meaning in our lives is lacking. And when this happens we try to replace it with feelings and sensations, namely addictions. Pornography is the premier replacement for meaning our lives. Chasing feelings and sensations a meaningless proposition resulting in frustration commonly self-destruction or even violence. An infinite amount of worldly pleasures giving satisfaction will not equal the peace and happiness of connection and relationship with God. “

Psalms and Proverbs

Psalm 62:1 “For God alone my soul waits in silence;”

Psalm 101:3 “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.”

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and steadfast spirit within me”

Psalm 97:10 “The Lord loves those who hate evil;

he guards the lives of his faithful; he rescues

them from the hand of the wicked.”

Psalm 25:20-21 “ O guard my life, and deliver me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.”

Psalm 119:9 “How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”

Psalm 51:1-17

1. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your

steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy

blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse

me from my sin.

3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever

before me.

4 Against you, you alone, have I sinned, and done

what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified

in your sentence and blameless when you pass

judgment.

5 Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother

conceived me.

6 You desire truth in the inward being; therefore

teach me wisdom in my secret heart.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash

me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that

you have crushed rejoice.

9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my

iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a

new and right spirit within me.

11 Do not cast me away from your presence, and do

not take your holy spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and

sustain in me a willing spirit.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and

sinners will return to you.

14 Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, O God of

my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of

your deliverance.

15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will

declare your praise.

16 For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to

give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.

17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken

spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you

will not despise.

Psalm 51:1-2“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”

Proverbs 6:25“Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes”

Proverbs 31:3“Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings.”

Proverbs 7:1-5 “My child, keep my words

and store up my commandments with you;

2 keep my commandments and live,

keep my teachings as the apple of your eye;

3 bind them on your fingers,

write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”

and call insight your intimate friend,

5 that they may keep you from the loose woman,

from the adulteress with her smooth words.”

Proverbs 6:32-33 “But he who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself. He will get wounds and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away.”

Proverbs 7:21-22 “With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. Right away he follows her, and goes like an ox to the slaughter, or bounds like a stag toward the trap.”

Proverbs 7:25-27 “Do not let your hearts turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths. For many are those she has laid low, and numerous are her victims. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.”

Proverbs 6:25-29

25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart,

and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

26 for a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread

but the wife of another stalks a man's very life.

27 Can fire be carried in the bosom

without burning one's clothes?

28 Or can one walk on hot coals

without scorching the feet?

29 So is he who sleeps with his neighbor's wife;

no one who touches her will go unpunished.

Proverbs 2:10-16 25

10 “for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;

11 prudence will watch over you;

and understanding will guard you.

12 It will save you from the way of evil,

from those who speak perversely,

13 who forsake the paths of uprightness

to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 who rejoice in doing evil

and delight in the perverseness of evil;

15 those whose paths are crooked,

and who are devious in their ways.

16 You will be saved from the loose woman,

from the adulteress with her smooth words,”

Proverbs 5:1-4

“My child, be attentive to my wisdom;

incline your ear to my understanding,

so that you may hold on to prudence,

and your lips may guard knowledge.

For the lips of a loose woman drip honey,

and her speech is smoother than oil;

but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,

sharp as a two-edged sword.”

Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.”

Proverbs 23:26-28 “My child, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well she lies in wait like a robber and increases the number of the faithless.”

Proverbs 5:20 “Why should you be intoxicated, my son, by another woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress.
